Question for the Evening

Let us play the twilight zone game:  If you could remove one Republican member of Congress and thus change American politics, who would you eliminate from politics?  Extra points for explaining your reasoning.  Winners will receive an imaginary Fez delivered by the Ghost of Politics past.

I could lose my senator, olympia snowe. She has long posed as a centrist and an independent voice. But when it came to torture and war and destruction of the environment and the economy she caved and instead became a rubber stamp. Her voice almost uniquely could have made a difference but she was decided that being a good republican was more important than being a good American.

All the while she gave a fig leaf of credibility to those who would torture, spy on their citizens, wage aggressive war and all the rest.

Yes I was not surprised but disappointed when she was not thrown out on her ass last time out. We have reaped the full measure of that failure.

So many GOP assholes, it's impossible to pick who is the worst. So I would lose Joe Lieberman, because of the way he totally demoralizes the Dems, and undercuts whatever they or the President is trying to do.

It's just an endless supply of fools on the GOP bench. One here or there would not make difference. No- better to remove Ben Nelson.

It'd be a choice between "my" junior sinator Diaper Dave and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. Both are smarmy beyond any sane person's comprehension, Dave's single saving grace being that he's such an asshole he'll never be particularly effective at anything beyond purchasing his reelection every six years.

I was going to say John "Orangeman" Boehner, but I gotta go with commenter Karin's choice. Lieberman, definitely. If nothing more than we'd never have to listen to Deputy Dawg again.

Mitch McConnell

I would have to go with Scott Brown. As he is most likely to be replaced by an actual liberal.

brownback and roberts, two for the price of one, mainly because they are such typical representatives of Koch interests, bland and reassuring on the exterior, totally indifferent inside to any needs of the citizenry. Their absence would be minimally noticed but could benefit Kansas.
Oh, Brownback will be gone anyway, being such a man of principle and his firm stand on two terms as a limit(to his boredom) he is leaving the Senate to be anointed Governor of Kansas. Musical chairs.
Think Phelps is bad for "image" of Ks.
Brownback will reduce state gvt to a cipher.

Re my earlier comment about Lieberman being an annoying whiner, I meant to say we'd never have to listen to Droopy again. I mixed up my cartoon dog characters. My apologies to Deputy Dawg.

I'd lose that douchewad Orrin Hatch. Good grief, what a sanctimonious asswipe.

Definitely, Olympia Snowe. Then the idiot Dems would stop trying to win her vote.

I was about to say Inhofe, because he's the most blatantly corrupt of the bunch--he's the Senator from Koch Industries.

However, after giving it a little more thought, I'd go with Ms. Graham. He's smarter than most of the dimbulbs on the Republican side, and he's their go-to spoiler--he's always playing as if he's the great conciliator, but, he's actually Lucy with the football. His main duty is to keep running out the clock on legislation, and dashing hopes at the last minute. He's also on some critical committees, so he's also acting as the eyes and ears of not only McCain and Lieberman, but of the Repug Senate leadership, as well.

Yeah, boot ol' Lindsey.

Tie between Harry fucking Reid and Nancy fucking Pelosi. A warning shot to their successors and to the herd of unwashed, venial miscreants they lead.

Richard Nixon was one of the turning points in history. He was VP to Dwight Eisenhower, who famously warned us of the military/industrial complex. Nixon ramped it up, escalating the Vietnam War. He allowed Kissinger, Charles Colston, Haldeman, G. Gordon Libby and others to become so mainstream.

I'm going to argue that the premise, "remove one Republican member of Congress and thus change American politics" is wrong.

You can't change only one member of this current Congress and effect any change. Besides being too many of them, another, just as bad, will fill his position.

If the premise was to take out one that started the Decline of the American Experiment, I'd nominate Paul Weyrich or Richard Viguerie.
