Ooh, let's call it "Trantor"!

I'm such a nerd.

China is planning to create the world's biggest mega city by merging nine cities to create a metropolis twice the size of Wales with a population of 42 million.

City planners in south China have laid out an ambitious plan to merge together the nine cities that lie around the Pearl River Delta.

The "Turn The Pearl River Delta Into One" scheme will create a 16,000 sq mile urban area that is 26 times larger geographically than Greater London, or twice the size of Wales.

The new mega-city will cover a large part of China's manufacturing heartland, stretching from Guangzhou to Shenzhen and including Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Huizhou and Zhaoqing. Together, they account for nearly a tenth of the Chinese economy.

Alert Preem Palvar (again, giant Nerd).

(Quick little known fact -- did you know Isaac Asimov has published 120 books since 1992? It tailed off a bit after he died.)

I don't think most of us have a firm grasp on just how populous China is - I know I really don't. I have a friend who is in the EB5 visa business, and he recently took a trip to China. His trip took him to one of the smaller cities - one that wasn't on the generic country maps of China. The population of that city was about a million people - larger than Indianapolis, Boston, Denver, etc., but it didn't even rate a spot on the country map. By contrast, my small to medium sized city of less than 100,000 makes it on to most US maps.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. Have an Internet. (I know it's not strange to laugh out loud at home when you're alone, but yeah, I'm still laughing.)

if the story in December is correct about China's ghost cities, this would solve one of their bubble problems... merge them together, turn it into one and voila, no housing bubble.

sounds like what some of our retarded politicians and business geniuses would propose.

change perceptions and the problem's solved.

Our city and county can't even bring themselves to merge their services, much less the adjacent towns, a couple of which have seceded from the big govt city..Costs more to run them all..but so what. Fits the anti big govt, little govt for little sheeple notions of the Kochs, who rule round here.
