Selective Epistle Reading

The Vatican has expressed an opinion on financial reform, and the Pope is on the side of the 99%...the left side in fact. This may come as a bit of a surprise to some, specifically XTC fans.
the Vatican called Monday for an overhaul of world’s financial systems and a return to a global economy based on ethical behavior and “achievement of a universal common good,” the AP reports.
Why those Godless commies!

The Vatican also has a tendency to oppose wars and occupations too, of course.

But as this does not involve birth control and especially abortion it is not a matter of concern to the Right or the media of this country.

Another example of the way the Xtian right are only selectively "pro-life." While generally reprehensible, the Vatican has been quite clear and consistent on these issues, which they see as central to the Church's pro-life position (which also includes opposition to capital punishment).

If they really support these positions then why do they continue to help elect far right reactionaries? Who can forget the threat of denying Kerry communion in 2004? I guess the Vatican, or at least the bishops in the U.S., thought Bush and Cheney were going to enact a progressive economic agenda in their second term.
